Ambassadors for Change

"Future challenges such as climate change need a collective assumption of responsibility to change behaviour" (Cornwall Sustainable Community Strategy, 2008)

The most significant direct impacts made by successful behaviour change campaigns were as a result of the role of leaders and champions…” (DEFRA “Selling Sustainability”, 2008: )

Behaviour change is a critical requirement to secure the shift in understanding and action for a sustainable future. The CoaST Ambassadors are quite literally leading a tide of behaviour change activity. We want to capture the essence of how the Ambassadors are bringing about this messy 'hearts and minds' bit that brings about pro-environmental behaviour change. We want to know "what made you change your behaviour and become more sustainable?

This BIG question deserves an answer.  We want to understand what engages you, as businesses,  visitors, suppliers, staff and local communities, to change your ways. We want to understand what makes you tick.

This project presents an opportunity for us to get under the skin of the behavior change that has been effected to date by assessing the impact the Ambassadors have had on 5 key audiences: visitors; supply chain; staff; host communities; & peer businesses.
Since April 2010 we have been working hard to understand the theory behind behaviour change, collaborating with a group of CoaST Ambassadors who are working hard to help us understand what they are doing, what is working and what isn't. As the CoaST Ambassadors bare their souls in intensive, in-depth interviews we are starting to get a flavour of what it’s all about. . . the businesses are linking us up with their visitors; supply chain; staff; host communities; & peer businesses. Through the conversations and stories a picture is starting to emerge.

As this work unfolds it is now informing and underpinning ALL the work that CoaST is doing.

Quote of the Day
Faced with the choice between changing one's mind and proving that there is no need to do so, almost everyone gets busy on the proof.
